Michael “Dyke” Moran who was born in a cottage in Curley’s Yard in 1886. He was the leading Irish Professional, finishing in joint third place in the 1913 Open Championship and won the 1913 Irish Professional Championship for the fifth consecutive year. Leaving in 1914 to take up a professional post in England, he enlisted the following year and died of wounds at Le Cateau, France on 6th April 1918 at the age of thirty-one.
